I purchased this watch at a store because I'd been experiencing a run of bad luck with wrist watches and wanted to see if a pocket watch would turn this ill luck.
It most certainly did. It's practical for me because I'm forever doing things with my hands that kill wrist watches, but the pocket watch is out of the way, safe in its namesake. Furthermore, nobody expects to see pocket watches anymore as cell phones are quickly putting even wrist watches out of style. It's fun to see the looks I get when somebody asks for the time.
This design is basic with no bells or whistes. Time and date aren't automatically set or reset at Daylight Savings Time and there's no satelite in the sky telling my little watch I've strayed to far into another time zone, it doesn't even tell me whether it's morning or night but for me that works. It is perfect for first time Pocket-watch owners who want to see if the idea will work for them without forking out a lot of cash or worrying if it'll get scratched up.
I've enjoyed owning this watch for practical, aesthetic, and entertaining purposes. In fact, this simple little number has made me quite enamored with pocket watches in general. When the current battery runs down I intend to try and get it replaced. If I cannot I plan to simply purchase an identical watch to act as the functional staple in my new collection.
(by the way; I've tried but it doesn't seem to work too good for hypnotizing people into giving you cash. Sorry folks!) -- First pocket watch.
I normally like almost every item with the Coleman name, this watch has been a big dissapointment. I ordered this watch because of the features on the face. It has military time listed on it, which is not common on most modern pocket watches. When the watch came, it did not function. I took the backing off, and found that the internal workings were very cheap and plastic. The battery that came with the item was dead. I replaced the battery, and the watch still did not work. I will need to take it to a watch shop. The seller is Target, the store does not normally stock this item. As for the watch, it is thin, light and does not have much substance to it. The top mount and time setting post is of an almost plastic material, the chain and belt clip are nice. With some work done, the watch could be nice, but as is, leaves something to be desired. -- Cheap Watch
I have to give this watch a "don't buy rating". If a watch doesn't keep accurate time its not worth any price unless you need a prop in a play. This watch does every once in a while keep within a few minutes of accurate time. The rest of the time it is in a time unto itself. Its time to toss mine. Does anyone need a good looking prop for their play? -- good looking but not a good time keeper
I had been looking for something simple and affordable.
It had been a good while since I had had a time piece, and I needed one that would get me to class on time. Pocket watches have always fascinated me, even with their simple mechanics, because of their literary quality (the fact that they look like they would fit perfectly into a Sherlock Holmes mystery) but they are growing increasingly harder to find.
Not only did Amazon show me selections from different sources, I recieved the watch within a week of purchase. Very efficient! -- Silver Steel Coleman Pocket Watch
I have owned two of these watches. The first one ceased keeping accurate time after I had the battery replaced. And I mean wildly inaccurate.
The second one did not hold up well. The ring at the top of the watch came off (with normal in-and-out of the pocket use) and could not be replaced. I tried tightening it with pliers and it instantly came off. I used it anyway, and now it has ceased keeping accurate time (even though it is on its original battery).
Setting the time is an adventure -- be sure that the button is fully back in or it will never start back up. And I have had the time set button pull out when I pulled the watch out of my pocket.
It is a cheap watch -- but you get less than you paid for. -- Terrible watch - you get less than you paid for
